Race Report: RR DUATHLON 2018

Super fun (but also very cold) day at the Road Rage Duathlon! Great way to kick off the multi-sport season and St. George Races knows how to put on a good show. I love local racing. Easy logistics but still plenty of good times and athletes that push me.

I could tell right away who my competition was – Julie Bryan from Idaho, whom I had never met but hope to see again soon – and on the first run I just tried to stay with her as she set a solid pace. Unfortunately, she was having some shoe issues at the beginning of the bike and I was left to duke it out with the boys for the 2-loop bike course. Nothing like yelling “Come on, boys, let’s get this party started! Drop the hammer!” while passing a couple of them to ensure that I would be pushed properly.

Duathlons are HARD. It’s one thing to swim – bike – run but another to run – bike – run. It’s all legs! And they will be screaming at you to SLOW DOWN during the second run. But you can NOT listen to them. So I kept chasing boys while trying to hold Julie at bay until the finish line.

Short races like this are the BEST. I finished 1st female and 6th overall in 1:34 and by the time awards were over, it had warmed up enough to go for another bike ride and swim while the kiddos were still busy playing soccer. A good day of racing/training in the books in preparation for the 2018 season!
