2020 Year of Covid

Not much racing going on over here this year between Covid-19 and trying to figure out if it is healthy for me to push my body to the extreme while it is fighting rheumatic disease. Considering myself very fortunate to line up for my first gravel bike race at the Belgian Waffle Ride in my hometown of Cedar City in October, which was a total blast!

2019 Rheumatoid Disease Diagnosis

I was diagnosed with rheumatic disease in March of 2019 after months of trying to figure out what is wrong with my body and, more specifically, my left knee. I was unable to do any training in the winter and then eased back into some light exercising in the spring. By summer, I was able to do some bike racing and a few swim events at the Utah Summer Games, which went surprisingly well. I gained back a lot of fitness and strength in the fall and winter of 2019 rising my bike, swimming, snow shoeing, nordic skiing, and hiking but it doesn’t look like I will be able to run much (if any) anymore. The focus is now on being as healthy and active as possible knowing that, while I can’t compete at the same level as before, sports and outdoor adventures will always play a pivotal role in my life.
